So why is it called
 a State “Trunk” Highway?

VIDEO OF THE WEEK ARCHIVES

The State Trunk Tour is creating video of some of our travels. Check out selected archives here!

Checking out Baraboo's downtown and Circus World Museum

Thanks for our friends at Best Western and the Best Western Baraboo Inn in West Baraboo (right along U.S. 12 & Highway 33), we checked out the Sauk County Courthouse square - including a surprise chess match taking place, the Al. Ringling Theatre, the Circus World Museum and more in the beautiful city of Baraboo, nestled in the Baraboo Hills.

A visit to Hudson, along Highway 35

Thanks for our friends at Best Western and the Best Western Hudson House Inn, we enjoyed a great time in Hudson, which is along U.S. 12, Highway 35, and the famous Yellowstone Trail. We take a few minutes to check out the causeway that once carried the famous Old Toll Bridge and the Yellowstone Trail, explore the historic Octagon House, hear an original pipe organ that arrived by steamboat in the 1870s to Hudson, and more.

We'll be posting a lot more videos of State Trunk Tour travels as we go through the seasons. Comments are welcome. Enjoy! View Video Archives.

State Trunk Tour TV: Highway 19 (Part 1)

America's first kindergarten, the Octagon House, the National Midget Racing Hall of Fame, Little Amerricka amusement park, an old school dairy bar, a memorabilia-studded sports bar, and even a disposal bin for your carp... it's all along Highway 19 as it runs from Watertown to Mazomanie. Follow Part 1 above and Part 2 below right here! You can also watch the State Trunk Tour on Time Warner Digital Cable's Wisconsin on Demand channel 411, under the "Around WI" menu. And don't forget to follow Highway 19 on our website west to east here.

A brief clip of the World Championship Snowmobile Races in Eagle River

Eagle River is the "Snowmobile Capital of the World" and the championship races are held here every January. Here's one race, which included a crash by one racer. Eagle River can be accessed via U.S. 45, Highway 17, Highway 32, or Highway 70.

The Wisconsin Cow Chip Throw, Prairie du Sac (we did some dodging)

The Cow Chip Throw is an annual event in Prairie du Sac. You can find Prairie du Sac and its twin, Sauk City, along the Wisconsin River where U.S. 12, Highway 60, and Highway 78 all meet.

Witnessing the 60-pound burger at Seymour's Burger Fiesta

The hamburger, according to most, was invented in Seymour in 1885. What better way to celebrate than with a massive burger festival, and cooking up a massive burger for the crowd to partake in? Seymour is along Highway 55, just north of where it meets up with Highway 54.

Leaving Summerfest with Queen music and sausages

Heading out of Summerfest in Milwaukee on July 4, 2009. U.S. 18, Highway 32, U.S. 41, Highway 59 and Highway 145 all come within a mile of this point. And during the 11-day festival, all roads lead here!

We head along Highway 54 from Winona to Black River Falls

Remember The Gobbler in Johnson Creek? (Along Highway 26 at I-94 & former Highway 30)
Be prepared for a jingle that won't leave your head, despite its cheesiness.
