So why is it called
 a State “Trunk” Highway?

A little perspective shot from the "Uncapped & Uncorked" Event held this past Friday night at the BEST WESTERN PREMIER Bridgewood Resort Hotel, just off U.S. 41 and Highway 114 in Neenah. Sand Creek Brewery, a State Trunk Tour favorite in Black River Falls, was one of many showcasing a wide variety of Wisconsin-produced beers, wines and cheeses. And you're already in a hotel so you can stay overnight!

Not sure we'll see ice castles melt anytime soon. We found this in Eagle River! It's along Highway 17, Highway 32 and U.S. 45 just off Highway 70 right downtown.

Since the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday holiday was Monday (January 16, 2012), we thought we'd share this "I Have A Dream" ice sculpture from a winter carving event in Milwaukee last year. This was right along Highway 32 (Milwaukee Street) in the Historic Third Ward.

Looking through the movable wings of the internationally-renowned Milwaukee Art Museum at the 33-story University Club Tower in downtown Milwaukee, right where U.S. 18 ends... Highway 32 swings right by here, too.

PICTURE OF THE WEEK ARCHIVES

The State Trunk Tour provides plenty of pictures to illustrate how enjoyable the road-tripping experience can be. Some lucky photos achieve the illustrious status of "Picture of the Week", and here are past pictures:

'Tis the season! In Milwaukee's Menomonee Valley, this sign is visible from I-94/U.S. 41 near 16th Street, as well as from Highway 57 (via the 27th Street Viaduct over the valley).

The holiday lights are up and dazzling at the MillerCoors Brewery Headquarters in Milwaukee, where the Holiday Lite Shows happen 4:40-8pm this weekend and Friday the 23rd. Admission is free and the brewery's center along State Street is easily accessed from U.S. 18, U.S. 41 or Highway 57 (27th Street) in Milwaukee.

The setting Saturday sun in December casts an interesting light pattern over (actually, under) the clouds just north of Newton in Manitowoc County.

Eau Claire, close to where U.S. 12 and Highway 37 meet, is where baseball great Hank Aaron began his career in 1952. He played two seasons in Carson Park before heading for major league greatness in Milwaukee and Atlanta... and then back to Milwaukee.

The announcers are perched atop the Press Box - which is a bar in Sauk City along Highways 60 & 78, just east of U.S. 12 as it crosses the Wisconsin River.

A nice picnic lunch spot lies at the top of Blue Mound in Blue Mound State Park, the highest point in southern Wisconsin. With views extending over 35 miles, it's a great stop for taking in the scenic beauty of this part of Wisconsin. You can access this in Blue Mound State Park, right off U.S. 18 & 151 a little bit west of Mount Horeb.

Highway 19 between U.S. 12 and U.S. 14 in northern Dane County winds along a valley and provides some nice scenery along a road stretch with plenty of curves.

Brilliant colors greet Highway 25 travelers as they enter the UW-Stout campus in downtown Menomonie.

There wasn't even a rainstorm, but a nice rainbow showed up in the early evening hours along Highway 25 near Ridgeland in Dunn County. Of course, with gold at over $1,700 per ounce, we might want to find the end of that rainbow!

The beauty of Copper Falls and other waterfalls in Copper Falls State Park along Highway 169 near Mellen cannot be understated. Check out this highway and all the beautiful falls near it, with colors changing throughout the year and reflecting iron, copper and other minerals in the water.

Summerfest is always a good time, with hundreds of bands and millions of beers and deep-fried meals for over 800,000 people across an 11-day period. No wonder their logo is a big smiley face.

Muscoda held its annual Morel Mushroom Festival and we couldn't help picking up some for future buttering and maybe frying...here are some fine specimens. They look like honeycombs and are highly prized in French cuisine. Muscoda is at the junction of Highways 80 & 133.

Since 1903, the Soldiers and Sailors' Monument has watched over Wood National Cemetery in Milwaukee, guarding over 37,000 interred soldiers within eyeshot of Miller Park, I-94 and downtown Milwaukee. U.S. 18, U.S. 41 and Highway 59 all provide access to this area, where you can pay your respects and admire the beautiful old buildings in the adjacent Zablocki VA Medical Center.

Plenty of historical structures, including churches, help make these tours special. The Springdale Lutheran Church, built by Norwegian immigrants in 1895 (their second on this site) stands tall on the eastern edge of Mount Horeb along U.S. 18/151...and not too far east of Highway 78.

The racing sausages a spice up the baseball season, even though the Brewers are 0-fer at the moment (we know that won't last). You can just smell 'em now, can't you?

On the east side of Milwaukee overlooking Lake Michigan, the North Point Light Station has been either guiding ships and/or serving as a nice photo op since 1855. It stayed in commission until 1994 and a 2007 restoration spiffed it back up to its original look. The lighthouse tower is 74 feet tall. The lighthouse is along Terrace Avenue, just east of Lake Drive, which is also Highway 32.

Wisconsin native Matt Kenseth's official fan headquarters is in his hometown of Cambridge, right along U.S. 12/18, east of Highway 73 and within sight of Highway 134. In NASCAR news, Matt finished 11th this past weekend in Vegas after a flat set him back from a start at the pole. Bristol's next.

U.S. Highway 151 between Dickeyville and Mount Horeb has a lot of large rock cuts blasted out when the highway became an expressway on a new alignment. Near Dickeyville on a winter day, the towering rock and icicles give you plenty to marvel at as you drive.

Downtown Milwaukee shines in the night from Discovery World, a terrific museum and aquarium on the lakefront. U.S. 18 ends right here, with Highway 32 and I-794 running past. Summerfest and the city's other ethnic festivals happen on the south side of this complex - bring it on!

Rhinelander's beloved Hodag hangs out along U.S. 8 (as it originally went through town) along Kemp Street southwest of downtown. You can find him right next to the Chamber of Commerce, snow or no snow!

It's GAME TIME! To salute the NFC Championship against da Bearssss, we thought we'd show Curly Lambeau in front of his namesake field. Vince couldn't be found... rumor has it he's in Chicago hassling George Halas and working to secure victory for the Pack...

Towering over the former train station in Eagle River is the winter Ice Castle, built right around New Years' each year and lasting until Mother Nature decides it's time for it to go. You'll find this castle (for the time being) along Highways 17, 32 & U.S. 45, just north of Highway 70 in downtown Eagle River. It's also lit from inside at night... definitely worth checking out!

From the Rose Bowl, the Badger Alumni Tailgate Party featured the three essentials: Brats, Beer and Cheese. Seriously, it was pretty cool.

As the State Trunk Tour heads west to catch the Badgers, we caught this shot over Madison, with Lake Mendota. The Capitol, the UW campus and some of the highways are visible (click for a larger shot), including U.S. 151 (Washington Avenue), John Nolen Drive crossing Lake Mendota, and at lower right, the Beltine (U.S. 12 & 18). On the horizon, you can see past Portage, the location of the Merrimac Ferry and more. We'll have to try and catch this same shot during summer and do a nice compare/contrast!

Holiday light displays are all over Wisconsin, and the annual one in Miller Valley at the MillerCoors Brewery in Milwaukee is always a treat! Stop by for a free tour of the brewery - with three free beers at the end - and enjoy the holiday lights along State Street. U.S. 18, Highway 57 and U.S. 41 all bring you within blocks of here.

SPLASH! Into the chilly waters of the Menomonee River, the massive, brand-spankin'-new 380-foot USS Fort Worth was launched Saturday, December 4, 2010 from Marinette Marine. After more outfitting and testing, it will be delivered to the Navy in 2012. Read more and watch video here. Nice work, everyone!

GO BUCKY! Camp Randall's field (conveniently close to U.S. 151 in Madison, of course) fills up after Wisconsin's 70-23 victory over Northwestern and the celebration of a Big Ten Championship. Could we be smelling roses? Could it be a cool "extra" road trip for the State Trunk Tour??

With "the season" here, Christmas and holiday trees are going up everywhere. Milwaukee's tree is in Red Arrow Park, flanked by City Hall, the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts and the 1000 North Water Building, which provides the background here. A great, FREE outdoor ice skating rink will open for winter fun on December 9th.

The roundabout in downtown Oconomowoc along Wisconsin Avenue carries the "city" routes of Highway 16 and 67. The five "O's" in Oconomowoc have been put on display in the middle, with a variety of colors that morph every few seconds...looks pretty cool at night. We may make a video of it, who knows?

The oldest remaining covered bridge in Wisconsin, this span was built in 1876 and crosses Cedar Creek just north of Highway 60 near Grafton. You can still walk through it and admire the handiwork...but your car has to take the new road, built in 1962.

Looking stately as ever, the Wisconsin State Historical Society has been chronicling the state's happenings since 1900. It's just one of the awesome buildings on the UW-Madison campus in the center of Madison. Highways 30, 113 and U.S. 151 all head into the city and give you a chance to enjoy one of the best places to live in America...and one of the nation's top party schools!

In Abbotsford you'll find the Hawkeye Dairy, home of tasty ice cream treats and plenty of cheese and sauaage. Hard to miss, with the huge cone out front. It's along Highway 13, between the new Highway 29 bypass and the original route through town, today known as Spruce Street (and "Business 29")..

A nice fall scene facing the State Capitol, looking down State Street in Madison. U.S. 151 skims downtown along Lake Monona, with U.S. 12, 14, 18 and 51 nearby. State Highway 30 once started at the capitol and went all the way to Milwaukee; 113 starts just a short distance away and heads to Baraboo. But this is the "big cheese" area of Wisconsin, right here.

Gorgeous fall colors with the brilliant blue of Lake Michigan in the background; this is the view across Highway 32 (Prospect Avenue) in Milwaukee along the downtown lakefront on a spectacular October day.

On an 80-degree October weekend at the Union Terrace at UW-Madison, changing leaves added color and spice to the students and alums already celebrating the weather, a Badger win and the views of Lake Mendota. U.S. 151 swings you past the UW Campus in Madison; Highways 12, 14, 18, 30, 51 and 113 also get you to Wisconsin's capitol city.

The fall colors are starting to show on Milwaukee's east side, with Lincoln Memorial Drive hugging the Lake Michigan coast in this view from the 40th floor of the U.S. Bank Building, tallest in the city. On the top of the cliff, Highway 32 as Prospect Avenue runs past the long line of residential skyscrapers.

While campaigning in 1960, John F. Kennedy stopped in this bar in Spooner to use the facilities. Today, the room he used is commemorated with a wooden plaque created by famed woodcarver Joe Barta. You, too, can find the sign and share the facilities at Big Dick's Buckhorn Inn at 105 Walnut Street in Spooner.

The Green County Courthouse towers above Lancaster and environs, with Highway 35, U.S. 61 and Highway 81 wrapping around it in the town square. Reminds you a bit like Hill Valley in "Back to the Future."

Cheese Days took place the weekend of September 18 & 19, 2010 in Monroe. Despite some soggy weather at times, a cheesy fun time was had by all. Here's part of the parade in front of the Green County Courthouse, featuring retired cheesemakers.

One of the nice views from our latest episode, the Bad River flows through Copper Falls State Park near Mellen. The Park features several beautiful waterfalls as the river works its way to Lake Superior. You can find Copper Falls State Park along Highway 169, just north of Highway 13.

For those who know Blue Mound Road in Milwaukee and Waukesha, there really is a Blue Mound. It is, in fact, the highest natural point in southern Wisconsin (1,716 feet) and offers beautiful views. You can hit the top in Blue Mound State Park, right off U.S. 18 & 151 between Barneveld and Mount Horeb; Highway 78 comes close, too.

Staying with stuff way up north, the World's Largest Corkscrew twists in front of a liquor store just west of Hurley along U.S. 2. It's not as large as I imagined, but I welcome the bottle of wine this thing could open....

Waterfalls in northern Wisconsin can be breathtaking, and often resemble topography you'd see in the western U.S. Here, the Montreal River roars down Superior Falls on the Wisconsin-Michigan state line within sight of Lake Superior itself. You can access Superior Falls via Highway 122 north of U.S. 2, about 15 miles west of Hurley.

Taking in the North Woods before the colors change. Along Highway 70 just west of Eagle River, the Wisconsin River looks gorgeous early on its journey from Lac Vieux Desert all the way to the Mississippi River near Prairie du Chien.

Little Norway is one of several great destinations to check out during a ride along U.S. 18, U.S. 151 or Highway 78 between Mount Horeb and Barneveld. We'll post updates on this route shortly, but in the meantime, enjoy this shot of Little Norway's Norway Building, just part of the charm on these gorgeous grounds in western Dane County. Uff Da!

The PGA Championship was at Whistling Straits, north of Sheboygan, in August of 2010. Sheboygan County is a major golfing destination, and evidence of it can be seen all over...including on this sign along Highway 28 just east of Sheboygan Falls.

The Wisconsin State Fair is open, and this year's new culinary delight is Cheesesteak on a Stick! Yes, it looks like a big corndog, but there's a cheesesteak in there. Find it at the Cousins' stand on the fairgrounds, now through the 15th! Thanks to State Trunk Tourers Courtney Bieber and Amanda Riewe for the picture. I will send them some antacids as a "thank you."

Clang, clang goes the trolley through the HarborPark area of Kenosha. Connecting five museums, multiple condos, apartments, offices, the METRA station and more, the trolley proved popular during Taste of Wisconsin, which ran last weekend. Rides are 50 cents for adults, 25 cents for kids. Pony up!

Ah, summer! Lake Michigan looks gorgeous from Bradford Beach in Milwaukee, along Lincoln Memorial Drive. Just up the cliff behind the beach is Highway 32, which serves as Farwell and Prospect Avenues just blocks away.

The fountain at Summerfest in Milwaukee helped keep kids cool while giving the entrance area a hint of a chlorine scent. Summerfest ran for 11 rain-free days this year and concluded on July 4th. Many ethnic festivals will soon follow on the grounds. Highways 18, 32, 41, 57, 59 and 145 all come very close to the grounds,

With Summerfest coming, we're in a music and artists mood. So enjoy this collage of artists along the side of Mike's Music in Fond du Lac, along U.S. 45 and the former stretch of Highway 175, just north of downtown Fondy and Highway 23.

With the unfortunate news of Sister Bay restauranteur Al Johnson passing away, we have to salute his restaurant and grass roof along Highway 42 with a picture we took over Memorial Day weekend. Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant & Butik will always be a Door County staple.

After a trip to the National Brewery Museum at the Potosi Brewing Company along Highway 133, we caught these horses with cow-like coloring on a farm in Grant County near Dickeyville, just off Highway 35 and U.S. 61.

The sands of Whitefish Dunes State Park Beach were in fine shape for a beautiful Memorial Day weekend in Door County. The Park is located a few miles off Highway 57, just south of Jacksonport.

The sunfish welcoming you to Onalaska, just north of La Crosse on Highway 35, is worth a kiss.

Highway 54 starts on the bridge from Winona, Minnesota and heads right into the first bluff on the Wisconsin side. From there, it's a beautiful ride through Black River Falls, Wisconsin Rapids, Waupaca, Green Bay and more on the way to the Lake Michigan shore at Algoma.

The Dairy State Beer & Cheese Festival took place in Kenosha on a beautiful day Saturday. The event benefitted the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha. Included were summer sausages shaped like old school Wisconsin beers and hundreds of real beers to sample. Watch for more beer and cheese festivals around the state!

Play Ball! Wisconsin Timber Rattlers mascot Fang signs autographs for fans. The Rattlers, the Brewers 'A' affiliate, are playing their home opener this weekend in Appleton. It's worth checking out Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium... find out more here!

Graceful wooden arches support the pedestrian bridge crossing the Rock River in downtown Jefferson. This bridge parallels the U.S. 18 bridge crossing just to the north, right by its intersection with Highway 26.

It's open for the season! The Merrimac Ferry, which carries Highway 113 across the Wisconsin River between Sauk and Columbia Counties, can now be accessed (for free) by State Trunk Tourers. Highways 188 and 78 will also get you there.

The first day of spring brought a taste of winter, not only with weather but with the National Scocross Series in Lake Geneva this weekend. It was held on the grounds of the Grand Geneva Resort, along Highway 50 just east of U.S. 12. (Photo courtesy of lakegenevawi.com)
Extreme close-up of the Pina Colada Cream Cheese Torte, one of the recipes submitting (and winning a prize) at the Midwest Cream Cheese Championships held in Beaver Dam on Saturday, March 13. It was quite tasty. Turns out, Beaver Dam is one of only two places in the U.S. where they make Kraft's assortment of cream cheeses, and they have been for about 80 years...who knew?

Saturday was a beautiful day to tour, and this view of the eagle in front of the vineyards on the hills on the Wollersheim Winery grounds (along Highway 188, between U.S. 12 and Highway 60) captured part of the enjoyment on a beautiful late afternoon.

Spring is right around the corner, so how about a warmer weather view as a teaser? This gorgeous overlook is near Ellison Bay, just off Highway 42 in Door County.

Miller Park is in winter hibernation, but the Brewers Arctic Tailgate resulted in tents outside the ticket windows and people lining up, ready to get seats for Opening Day. AND, Spring Training is underway!

Adding charm to an already terrific town to visit, horse-drawn carriage rides add a little somethin' somethin' to a Lake Geneva tour along Highway 50.

She may look sad (and the momentary cloud cover added to the feel), but her sculptors were happy with their prize! The US National Snow Sculpting Championships are taking place in Lake Geneva this weekend. Click here or on the picture for a full slideshow!

Jimmy the Groundhog says it's going to be an early spring! Tuesday morning, Jimmy whispered the prognosis into Sun Prairie mayor Joe Chase's ear (he's in the top hat.) Jimmy is being held by caregiver Jerry Hahn; Representative Gary Hebl is to the left. More pictures are available here!
(Photo courtesy of the Sun Prairie Chamber of Commerce.)

Riding along U.S. 51 and Highway 70 through Woodruff, I couldn't help but notice this large snowman with an unmistakeable Wisconsin Badger theme. Ya gotta love it! Click the picture for a larger view.

Gallery Night in Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward featured outdoor ice sculptures, including Martin Luther King, Jr. (since this is his b-day weekend) and several other statues people were checking out and getting their pictures with. In the background is Milwaukee Street, which here is part of Highway 32. Click the picture for a larger view.

The Milwaukee County Zoological Society celebrated its 100th anniversary this weekend. One way to celebrate? Probably the tallest cake in the state! The Milwaukee County Zoo is one of the world'd best and can be found right where U.S. 18 & Highway 100 meet on the west side of Milwaukee. The cake's probably been eaten, though.

The snow in Door County was heavy and clung beautifully to trees along this stretch of Highway 57 right at the 45th parallel, between Jacksonport and Baileys Harbor.

Plenty of snow fell through most of Wisconsin. It's good packing snow, too...check out this bird feeder's new "helmet o'snow" near Hartford, where Highways 60 and 83 meet! (Photo courtesy of Wendy Hauser)

Yep, we went there. Unincorporated Spread Eagle features beautiful lakes, bountiful forests, and source fodder for visitors looking to make jokes. This must happen often, because people honked and gave us the 'thumbs up' as we took pictures here. You can find Spread Eagle (Wisconsin) along US 2/141 between Florence and Iron Mountain, Michigan.

Some are still green, some are orange, some are a nice red. Check out the fall colors all around Wisconsin!

The shot along The Meteor at Little Amerricka in Marshall, right along Highway 19. This will be the next highway on State Trunk Tour TV, coming soon!

The fall colors haven't fully displayed themselves along Highway 71 and the parallel Elroy-Sparta Trail, but the scenery is beautiful and time's a-wastin' if you want to see everything in full bloom. Get out for a drive - and a bike ride!.

Larry the Logroller towers over Wabeno and the North Woods along Highway 32 as it runs the length of the state, from south of Kenosha all the way to Land O'Lakes.

Pardeeville (Highways 22 and 44) is big on watermelons in summer and curling in winter. Every year, Pardeeville hosts the U.S. Watermelon Eating and Seed-Spitting Competition. The 2009 edition was visited by the State Trunk Tour, and featured here is 10-year-old Colton Ketter of Lomira. Spitters from all over came to Pardeeville for the chance to take home glory - and a ribbon.

Highway 32's northern end is at the state line in Land O'Lakes... right where the local BP station is. As in, it literally straddles the state line! Buy gas, lottery tickets, soda, bait, magazines, whatever you want - and cover two states in one building. Here, my left foot is in Michigan and my right is in Wisconsin. Highway 32 and U.S. 45 lurk just outside.

The long view from Highway 41 looking towards Lake Winnebago. Downtown Fond du Lac is visible in the distance.

Heading through Fond du Lac on Highway 175 & U.S. 45 (on the way to Lambeau for a pre-season Packer game), we had to take a shot of the mural along the side of Mike's Music on Main Street. Can you identify 'em all?

Yep, couldn't resist. It's Sunday night at the Wisconsin State Fair and it's time for chocolate covered bacon. A mix of salty and sweet, it's a popular treat here at the Fair...and a nutritionist's nightmare!

At the end of Highway 42 in Door County, you REALLY reach the end. The only way you can keep going is via the Washington Island Ferry...or if you have one of those Wisconsin "Ducks" from the Dells so you can float out on the Green Bay/Lake Michigan border...

The EAA AirVenture continues in Oshkosh through today. Here's a shot from a show taken last time the State Trunk Tour visited EAA. Don't worry, the flames were intentional and part of a show! U.S. 41 will get there, right near Highways 21, 26, 44, U.S. 45 and Highway 91. View a map and get directions here!

So I got a picture of the World's Largest Penny in Woodruff along Highway 70. Agnes, a State Trunk Tour reader, sent in this picture where she (at left) is standing with family members at the same penny the year it was dedicated in 1953. Thanks, Agnes!

While checking out Circus World in lovely Baraboo via Highways 33 and 113 on Saturday, July 12, 2009, we also found this massive chess game taking place downtown. There's a "Harry Potter" tie-in and we'll post video of that shortly!

Summer hiking in Roche-A-Cri State Park off Highway 13 north of Adams-Friendship leads to great sights like this.

The Ice Cream Sundae was invented in Two Rivers, and June 25th marked the 128th anniversary of the iconic dessert dish. Imbibe in one at the historic Washington House, located one block off Highway 42 in downtown Two Rivers. Also look for the marker talking about George Hallauer, Edward Berner and a ten-year-old girl in search of a chocolate fix changed dessert history.

During a run through Green Bay on Highways 29, 32, 41, 54, 57 or 141, a stop at Titletown Brewing is highly recommended! Watch for a the combination train station/football player/flag setup along the Fox River.

Before - and after: Along Highway 64 east of Antigo, I'd snapped a picture of an old abandoned schoolhouse (left). State Trunk Tourer Agnes W. of Antigo happened to notice on May 24, 2009 that the school looks different now - check it out! Click on each picture to enlarge. And thanks, Agnes!

Road tripping season is here - and so is biking season! Whether motorcycles or bicycles, it's time to get out there! The Elroy-Sparta Trail is always a good trip, as it is for these bikers. Highway 71 parallels the trail for the entire 32-mile route.

American Idol finalist Danny Gokey returned to Milwaukee on Friday, May 7, 2009 to thousands of fans who met him at TV & radio stations, along the parade route and, pictured here, for a free show at Summerfest that drew over 25,000. It's too bad he didn't make it to the final two, but it was fun while it lasted! Photo courtesy of Debbie Wieck.

Aaaaay! The Bronze Fonz is all "thumbs up" along the Milwaukee River. You can visit it right along the river at U.S. 18 (Wells Street), six blocks east of Highway 145 and three blocks west of Highway 32 (Broadway/Milwaukee Street.) The Bronze Fonz stands at 5'7"...one inch taller than Henry Winkler in real life.

4/22/09 - Dells Army Ducks are out & about on Lake Delton as ... on Twitpic

This picture from Twitter shows the Dells Army Ducks out and about on Lake Delton, which is back!

Maybe this farm could audition for that "More bars in more places" commercial for cell phone service. Along Highway 96 between Greenleaf and Denmark.

The red pagoda of an old Wadham's gas station lives on in Historic Downtown Cedarburg, just part of the town's charming architecture, slew of shops and points of interest. The original Highway 57 went right through Cedarburg, and Highways 32 and 60 come close enough for a visit.

St. Patrick's Day celebrations featured parades throughout the state, including this one in Milwaukee, right near Highways 18, 32, 41 and 145.

This triple arch bridge near Merton just off Highway 83 on Funk Road (yes, we can make it funky on the State Trunk Tour) in Waukesha County is a classic piece of old railroad engineering. Drive slowly on the turns before you go under the arch to the left!.

Bruuuuuuuce Springsteen playing the Harley 105th Anniversary Concert, Saturday night August 30th at Veterans Park in Milwaukee. Bruce on the video screen with downtown Milwaukee (and Highway 32) right behind him.

Multiple funnel-like clouds over northern Dane County on June 7, 2008, taken from just north of U.S. 14 west of Cross Plains.

Alpacas have a snack on a beautiful Wisconsin day along Highway 78 just outside Mount Horeb.

After the storm. There must have been one honkin' pot o' gold at the end of this rainbow. It lit up the late afternoon sky from Black River Falls to Tomah along U.S. 12 & I-94 on Saturday, May 17, 2008.

Climbing to the top of Holy Hill provides a plethora of great views, including this one that has downtown Milwaukee off in the distance. Holy Hill is accessible right off Highway Highway 167.

Yep, you'll never know what you'll find on the State Trunk Tour. This is just a few miles south of Marshfield on Highway 13.

Birthplace of the Hamburger, Seymour, offers up a tall reminder about its heritage. Some of the largest hamburgers in the world get cooked up every year at Burger Fest there, along Highway 55.

A smiley barn was once famous along I-94 at Highway 83. Now, Highway 83 has another smiley barn, this one between Mukwonago and Waterford.

A quaint scene from 2007, which could have looked exactly like that in 1940. Taken in Orfordville, off Highway 11 and 213.

The luck o' the Irish is all over Wisconsin, including New Dublin... er, New London, where Highways 45 and 54 meet!

We've all seen numbered streets, even half-mile roads. But three-quarters avenues? This is just off U.S. 53 in Barron County.

Ah, the snow can be pretty sometimes. After a wet snowfall, the trees along Highway 18 in Milwaukee were indeed a lovely sight... more so than the crosswalks.

Who says a penny is too small? Woodruff has the world's largest penny, and it's on display just off Highway 70, U.S. 51 and Highway 47. It harkens back to a 1953 story that's worth reading on the highway pages.

A June tornado ripped across Highway 64 in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest; this is one of the views from the road. The location, a few miles west of Highway 32, will need years and years to grow back.
