So why is it called
 a State “Trunk” Highway?

It's February and the days are getting noticeably longer. It's been pretty nice overall (unless you prefer gobs of snow), but we know the weather can be unpredictable when you're riding around Wisconsin (get winter weather driving updates here). There's a ton to see and do around the state and the road trippin' is fun. Pick a Road and GO!! Find things to check out on our events list below.
Whenever you want to explore the state, find new places to shop, eat and drink, find events to attend, or stumble across new out-of-the-way nook to enjoy, let us help. We're always updating highways and the cool stuff along them, pictures, videos, links and more. Check out events happening around the state so you can make your plans - or just help you plan for spontaneity. For regular updates, be sure to follow us on Twitter!

Remember, when you travel, stay at Best Western, the Official Hotel of the State Trunk Tour, and let 'em know where you saw them! (That would be this site.) Enjoy!

State Trunk Tour Picture & Video:

From a mild Cedarburg Winter Festival in 2012. The bed races couldn't run on the ice of Cedar Creek, so they were held on an adjacent street. Here was the "Best Costumed" bed for the race, from the Creme and Crepe Cafe in Cedarburg. A fun time for all! Cedarburg once had Highway 57 running right through it as Washington Avenue, and you know what? You should follow this route for Highway 57 rather than angle to its current oreintation along I-43. This is what road trips are all about!

The AMSOIL World Championship Derby: Snowmobiles in Eagle River

Eagle River is the Snowmobiling Capital of the World, and it proves it every January with the snowmobiling championships. We check it out in a video mixing winter and summer. U.S. 45, Highway 17, Highway 32 and Highway 70 all meet in Eagle River.

We'll be posting a lot more videos of State Trunk Tour travels as we go through the seasons. Comments are welcome. Enjoy! View Video Archives.

Recently Traversed Trunk Tours & Updates

We've covered more of Highway 35 from Hudson to Osceola. Watch for the building of pages for Highways 25, 37, 38 and 93! This is always a work in progress - and things can change quickly - so check back often. contact us if you have ideas or want to see certain routes covered first!

So just what IS the State Trunk Tour?
The State Trunk Tour celebrates the fun of road tripping in Wisconsin by selecting certain state highways and riding them in their entirety, reporting everything along the way. Wisconsin’s state highways connect all sorts of points of interest, cities, towns, recreation trails, scenic byways, lakes, rivers, bridges, historical sites, geographic markers, taverns, antique shops… you get the idea. With descriptions, pictures, links and more, it's designed to be a fun ride through the state and a good source for inspiration. We're updating routes weekly, so check back often!
